Test Your Metabolism

Last Updated: April 13, 2017

Testing your metabolism is testing the chemical reactions that help help keep you alive.

 Meriam-Webster defines metabolism as: “…the chemical changes in living cells by which energy is provided for vital processes and activities and new material is assimilated”.

 Most people refer to metabolism when they are talking specifically about gaining or losing weight.

 Metabolic functions include all reactions that help your cells breakdown chemical components for energy or buildup chemical components for energy.

 The building of energy by a chemical reaction is called an ANABOLIC reaction.

 The breakdown of chemicals to smaller parts of energy in a reaction is called a CATABOLIC reaction.

 Both anabolic and catabolic reactions are essential for excellent metabolic function inside your cells

Testing of metabolic function has become common with doctors in the past decade. These tests are normally done to monitor the efficiency of your organs and how they are responding to your body’s chemical activities.

In fitness there are other metabolic tests like VO2 max and Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) people get measured to see how to improve with exercise and the amount of calories that they burn at rest.

The tests that are available to you are good but they do not address the actual measures of the chemical changes in living cells by which energy is provided for vital processes…. that Merriam-Webster defines.

A third type of metabolic test has been very valuable in my clinical practice.

If you breakdown a chemical reaction and use the end-products to determine what is and is not being used properly you can determine things that need to be altered for the next chemical reaction to have a different result.

The metabolic testing you can perform at home tests your metabolism and will give you a comprehensive profile of 46 cell reactions that are involved in producing energy that helps your cells work properly. Remember that your CELL PRODUCES HEALTH for your entire body.

The results you receive will tell you if you have too much or too little of a specific chemical in a reaction that can then be adjusted through your nutrition or lifestyle.

People get tested for a variety of different reasons including; weight loss issues, low energy, fatigue, weak immune systems, metabolic conditions, leaky gut syndromes but these tests are not meant to diagnose or cure any disease.

When the chemical reactions in a cell are addressed you are giving your cell what it needs to work at its highest function. This is a proactive way to give your body good fuel to create its own health.

When it is determined what your cell needs to improve its metabolism you can use your results to change habits and your future tests can show a healthier metabolism for you.

The goal of any test should help give us information that we want to help us create a better lifestyle and quality of life as we all pursue health.
